Name, Age and Location:
Hi there, my name is Leanne Flavell, I am 27 years old and I live in Cornwall
Role:
I have been part of Alopecia Awareness since February 2005. Since then I have worked alongside Wendy and more recently Ryan, to help promote the support group and provide the help and information that is much needed by fellow alopecia sufferers. I contribute to the organisation by arranging fund raising events that help produce the materials needed to get the information to people such as newsletters, leaflets and posters and even the website. I basically help with the every day running of Alopecia Awareness.
Alopecia Sufferer?
Yes, I started noticing some hair loss in Aug 2004. This gradually progressed to what has so far been my worst attack of Alopecia during which I lost just over 75% of my hair. I have lost my eyebrows, lashes and all other body hair! Except can you believe it my female moustache and one hairy leg! bizarre I know, (and maybe even too much information) but hey, I am unique!!! I have been a wig wearer for twelve months now and I have to say, as much as I would like my own hair I am having great fun! Being blonde one day and red the next has its advantages!
Real Job:
I am a trainee dental nurse, I currently attend a local college where I will qualify (all being well) in January 2007. I work in a small but very busy local dental practise.
Hobbies & Interests:
OK I can't actually remember what it was I used to do before Alopecia Awareness! My active involvement keeps my spare time very minimal but when I am not working, on the phone to Wendy or being a mum, I enjoy eating out and relaxing with friends and family.
Family:
I live with my partner Tom and I have two children age 8 and 12.
Pets:
We have six gold fish, one hamster and two children!!
Other Comments:
As an Alopecia sufferer, I know the kind of help that I needed when I started losing my hair and unfortunately this just was not available. I can speak for many Alopecia sufferers when I say that there does not seem to be much help out there that is easy to access. However, working alongside these lovely people and trying to provide the support network needed, I personally hope nobody feels the way I did this time last year!
