Wendy WoodrowOriginal Organisation Founder |
Name, Age and Location:
Hi, my name is Wendy Woodrow, I'm 34 years old and I live near St Ives in Cornwall
Role:
Though I no longer take an active role in the charity, I worked with Leanne Flavell in the very beginning to turn a simple idea into a support network and eventually, Alopecia Awareness as a charity. My work involved providing much needed information, support and guidance to anyone suffering from the effects of Alopecia. This included working alongside Leanne to promote our new website, raise awareness of Alopecia and the support groups we run, spread the most up to date information to the people who need it most whether this be through GP's, the media (newspapers, magazines, radio, TV) or through the many awareness-raising events that we ran.
Alopecia Sufferer?
Yes, I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in November 2004 after I noticed my hair line seemed to have receded one day while I was getting ready for work. I monitored it daily and by Christmas I had lost both sides. However, by the summer of 2005 it had all grown back again, it started off white and as it grew longer became very dark. Unfortunately, once again around October time I noticed that it had started again, this time in different places, mainly now at the back. Currently I am wearing a wig as the hair loss is very noticeable, but the hair that grew back hasn't been affected yet!
Real Job:
I am a clerical officer with British Telecom
Hobbies & Interests:
Spare time is a real luxury, however I love to spend time with my family, usually running around the beach with the kids and dog or walking through the woods. I like to go on holidays, cook (well try to), and socialise.
Family:
I live with my husband Austin, and my two daughters Holly (11), and Chloe (8).
Pets:
I have Maisey (boxer dog) and Brownie (Bengal tabby cat)
Other Comments:
I feel so passionate about the charity and really want it to succeed and deeply regret that I am no longer able to commit my time to its organisation.
