Hi there, my name is Michelle Chapman, I am 41 years old and I live in Plymouth
Role:
I have been part of Alopecia Awareness since February 2005. Since then I have worked with Ryan and the rest of our team to help promote the support group and provide the help and information that is much needed by fellow alopecia sufferers. I contribute to the organisation by arranging fund raising events that help produce the materials needed to get the information to people such as newsletters, leaflets and posters and even the website. I basically help with the every day running of Alopecia Awareness.
Alopecia Sufferer?
Yes, I have lived with alopecia since the age of 5 and 36 years on, I work for a Devon based wig company, Browns More Hair Now, using all of my knowledge, personal experience and understanding of those who find themselves faced with hair loss, either through Alopecia or by way of hospital treatments to help in any way I can.
Real Job:
I work for a company called Browns More Hair Now selling wigs to anyone suffering from hair loss, whether it be through Alopecia or any other condition.
Other Comments:
Although I am prepared to go without my hair to raise awareness of alopecia, I certainly understand that not everyone can run around waving their wigs in the air. I am proud to stand up on behalf of all those with hair loss. I appreciate that just knowing there is someone else who understands what it feels like to experience hair loss, alleviates some of the fear and pressure of loneliness.
